  • Hospitals Kept Saying No: Many private hospitals frequently refused to accept the Swasthya Sathi card, leaving families stranded during medical emergencies.
  • Useless Outside of Bengal: Swasthya Sathi was only valid inside West Bengal. Nearly 1 crore (10 million) people from Bengal travel to other states for work. If a migrant worker from Howrah got sick while working in Maharashtra, their Swasthya Sathi card was completely useless.

Part 2: Who Gets the Card and How to Apply?

The state is migrating over 6 crore old Swasthya Sathi users into the new Ayushman system. Your application process entirely depends on what kind of Ration Card you currently have.

1. If you have “Small” Priority Ration Cards (SPHH, PHH, AAY)

If your family holds these priority digital ration cards, the government is making it incredibly easy for you. You do not need to stand in long lines.
